Welcome to Orgiva, and Casa Santa Filomena. Our three self-catering apartments are ideally located for you to enjoy your holiday in the Alpujarra. From our lovely garden and poolside terrace you can enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and be only a few minutes, gentle walk, from the centre of Orgiva. The area offers a wide variety of holiday activities from walking, cycling and climbing to painting, bird watching or just relaxing by our pool.

Orgiva is a bustling market town nestling between two mountain ranges; the Sierra Nevada to the North, and the Sierra De La Contraviesa to the South. Orgiva is the provincial capital of the western Alpujarra, offering a wide variety of bars, restaurants, shops and banks. For those wishing to attend religious services, Orgiva has a striking baroque Church.

The surrounding region offers, for those who do not wish to just relax, the added attraction of wonderful mountain walks, bird watching, and an endless array of wild flowers to paint on canvas. World class rock climbing, horse riding, paragliding, and both road and mountainbiking are also available for the more energetic visitors. There is a tourist office in town which is well worth a visit for guests seeking further information on activities.

Within easy reach of Orgiva are the many white washed Berber villages of La Alpujarra, the Mediterranean coast and Granada. This historic city lies to our North, offering visitors the splendour of the Alhambra Palaces, the old Arab and Jewish quarters, the Cathedral, and many other historic sites of interest. Granada will also satisfy those visitors who enjoy shopping, or just letting the world go by sitting at one of the many street cafes.

The region also offers the most southerly Winter skiing in mainland Europe.  So, you can ski in the morning, then swim in the Mediterranean in the afternoon and finish a perfect day by dining beside the sea in one of the many beach restaurants.

We do hope that you enjoy our site, and decide to holiday with us.

Rock climbing from Casa Santa Filomena

We live in an area with some world class rock climbing nearby. The nearest crags are only 5mins away in the car and there are many more crags in the near vicinity.

A guide to the rock clmbing crags of Orgiva is included in the information folder in your apartment. We also have the guides to all the local crags, which are also accessible here: http://sierranevadaguides.co.uk/rock-climbing-granada/

If you wish to head to the world class venues of Los Vados, Los Cahorrros and others in Granada province, we can lend you the detailed guides to which-ever location you're heading to. In addition to the excellent climbing at Los Vados, there is a superb via ferratta, which scales the 300m cliffs from top to bottom in 15 pitches.

If you need any equipment there is a shop in town holding rudimentary supplies and a much more extensive shop in Lanjaron (15 mins by car).

Road Cycling from Casa Santa Filomena

In 2015 the Vuelta D' Espagne (Tour of Spain) road race came through Orgiva. This is as good an indication as you can get that we live in a world class road cycling area. From the house there are a myriad of superb, smooth, extremely quiet mountain roads to explore on your road bike. You can take in the Alpujarras, the Sierra Nevada, the Contraviesa and more, all from the house, without the need for a car.

We can provide you with GPS compatible routes and recommendations for great cafe/bars en route, to slake your thirst or to stop for food. The shortest road loop from the house is 43km and involves 1,050m of ascent. From there, we can recommend other longer and more scenic (though arduous) routes. Our favourite is a 100km, 2,000m ascent loop taking in many of the famous white-washed villages including Cadiar and Trevelez, and exposing you to the real beauty of the Alpujarras. Of course you can go where-ever you like and do as much or as little as you wish.

You can securely store your bike at the house. If you need to rent a good road bike then we recommend the following shop, which is about 35mns from the house: http://bullbikes.com/en/333-rent-a-bike

 LGB1

 Garden Railway

Our favourite feature of Casa Santa Filomena is the garden railway. This is a G Scale railway that circles the swimming pool and the outside dining areas. It's a permanantly laid railway consisting of 70 metres of track. We have 10 engines that can operate on it and a mixture of coaches and goods wagons for the engines to pull. The railway is operated by a digital control mechanism (DCC), for those engines powered by electricity. We also have two 'live-steam' engines powered by gas and water, one of which is radio controlled.

If you have an engine at home that you'd like to bring on holiday with you, and run it while you're here, then pack it up and bring it with you. We operate with the LGB MTS system and have spare hand-held controllers if your engine is decoder fitted or you can run analogue as well. If you have a live-steam engine, feel free to bring that too. The track guage is 45mm.
